Being Sold for Nothing
Just Thoughts: Do not chase people, the right people who belong in your life will come to you and stay - Unknown
It can be difficult to understand why people leave and how easily they move on. You can get caught up thinking about everything you did for them, the care you expressed through personal situations, the advice you gave and the mercy you may have shown. But it hurts more when you hear from others that they may be talking negative about you, especially when its not true, and especially when there are always two sides to every story. Its happened to all of us, and depending on your maturity in Christ, your response to this situation can either break you or make you.
Its human nature to want to defend yourself when being challenged, but God at times allows situations to happen in our lives to strengthen our faith in Him. We have to look at every situation as something that we turn to God to help us handle. If everyone would truly look at themselves as 'second' in every situation, there would be more love reflected in this world. I was recently reflecting on the story of Joseph, when he was betrayed by his own blood (Gen 37). His brothers sold him and he ended up in Egypt as a slave for one of the Pharaoh's officials. He even ended up in prison for being truthful, but something that stands out in this story, that even though his brothers left him, Joseph kept his faith in God.
You see God has a plan and purpose for your life, and He works where there is an attitude of faith. When you truly believe, there is nothing impossible for God. Joseph could have chosen to reflect bitterness, he could have hated his brothers, he could have tried to escape, but he remained still, in light of the storm. God at times brings people into your life that will ultimately challenge your faith. There are people that will leave your life that will ultimately challenge your faith. But when you remain focused on God, there will be favor in your life. I know I started this message about people leaving and how to deal with it, but the key here is that Joseph never stopped believing in God's promises while people continued to leave and betray him. In every situation, the Lord was with him and showed favor, he continued putting him in charge of every place he stepped foot, even being put in charge of the whole land of Egypt (Gen 39-42).
You see no matter who leaves your side, no matter who betrays you, no matter who talks about you, even if its your own brother ... God will never leave you! You have favor when you remain rooted in Christ. We have to understand that people come and go in our lives, whether it is a positive or negative fall out, we must remain firm believing in God's promises and forgiving those that hurt us. Bible says that we must be ready to forgive over and over again (Matt 18:21-22). This is part of life.
I once heard a comment at a leadership conference that really put things in perspective for me:
